Only a few places in Slovenia can boast as many masters of the written word as the villages under mount Stol. The village of Vrba is home to the birth house of the greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren, and the Cultural Heritage Trail will also take you to the birth houses of writers Fran Saleški Finžgar in the village of Doslovče and Janez Jalen in the small village of Rodine and to the birth house of the linguist Matija Čop in the settlement of Žirovnica.

Anton Janša, the first beekeeping teacher at the Viennese Court, acquired his rich apicultural knowledge in these parts. In Janša’s beehive in Breznica you may discover a unique folk art – beehive panels painted with humorous motifs.

Outdoors enthusiasts will gladly visit the Završnica recreational park around the reservoir, from which paths will take you to the surrounding mountain peaks of the Karawanks mountain range dominated by the highest mountain top, the Stol, and to the popular mountain pastures where you can taste authentic shepherd’s delicacies, such as spoonbread and sour milk.

Visit Ajdna, one of the most renowned Slovenian late antique archaeological sites, where besides discovering the past you will also enjoy the magnificent views of the Julian Alps and Lake Bled.
