Monument dedicated to Josip Plemelj

Visit the monument dedicated to the most famous mathematician and academician from Bled.

The monument, dedicated to Josip Plemelj, world renowned mathematician and author of many papers in applied mathematics, stands in the park in front of the Higher Vocational College for Hospitality and Tourism. To commemorate the 100th birth anniversary in 1973, the monument was erected by the Association of Mathematicians, Physicists and Astronomers of Slovenia and the Municipality of Radovljica.

Josip Plemelj was born in 1873 in Bled. He got his doctoral degree in mathematics in Vienna, as well as many other awards. He was a professor of mathematics and in 1919 also the first chancellor of the Slovenian university in Ljubljana. Among academic peers he was also an active member of academies of science in Ljubljana, Zagreb, Belgrade and Munich. The primary school in Bled is named after him.
