Dear friends of Bled!

This year, Easter and the festival of the Municipality of Bled will be celebrated together. April 10, 1004, took its place in history as the date when Bled was first mentioned in documents. In 1004, Emperor Eric II gave Bled as a gift to Bishop Albuin of Brixen with the land between both Sava rivers, and the deed of donation from 1004 became the first written document mentioning Bled.

We are sorry that we cannot celebrate these festivities together with you, friends of Bled and our dear guests. Life in Bled, just like all over the world, has stopped due to the epidemic; however, locals have been preparing for the day when we will be able to welcome you again among us. In the meantime, residents of Bled have been writing letters about Bled and taking pictures of the spring that has bloomed in all of its beauty. May these photographs remind you of the nice days that you had in Bled and may they serve as an invitation to soon embrace you! I wish you all a happy Easter!

Letter of the friends of Bled from the Guernsey Island to the Mayor of Bled, Janez Fajfar

A friend of Guernsey came across a letter written in 1869 and reprinted during the Spanish flu pandemic in 1919.

This is timeless...

"And people stayed at home
And read books
And listened
And they rested
And did exercises
And made art and played
And learned new ways of being
And stopped and listened
More deeply
Someone meditated, someone prayed
Someone met their shadow
And people began to think differently
And people healed.
And in the absence of people who
Lived in ignorant ways
Dangerous, meaningless and heartless,
The earth also began to heal
And when the danger ended and
People found themselves
They grieved for the dead
And made new choices
And dreamed of new visions
And created new ways of living
And completely healed the earth
Just as they were healed."

Kathleen O’Meara, 1869
