As the wind gently rippled the surface of Lake Bled, we stood on the wooden pier, marvelling at the perfect scene unfolding before our eyes. Bled Island, bathing in the morning light, looked like something straight out of a fairy tale, and the only sound breaking the silence around us was the distant thunk of an oar cutting through the water.
Our first anniversary. We chose Hotel Park for the romantic potential of this wonderful place – a balcony with a view of the lake, the scent of freshly made cream cakes wafting in the air, and the feeling that we have suddenly found ourselves in a totally different world.
It all happened spontaneously. A walk along the path surrounding the lake, laughter, and our hands finding their way to each other again and again. When we got to the bridge where lovers lock their promises, Rok reached into his pocket, taking out a small silver padlock. I looked at him in surprise.
“I treasure every single moment I spend with you. I want you to know that you are my home, no matter where we are,” he said, and in his eyes, I could see the immense honesty that seduced me over and over.
Together, we held the padlock and gently placed it on the chain link fence. Click. The sound of a promise. We threw the key into the depths of the lake, watching as it vanished under the surface, as if the Bled fairy herself vowed to take good care of it.
From that moment on, we were no longer two separate people who love each other. We became one. Bled weaved our love into its waves, its secrets, and its invisible threads that have united us forever.
Standing on the balcony of our hotel room that evening, watching the moonlight reflect on the surface of the lake, I was sure of one thing: no matter what the future may hold, Bled will always remain the place where we truly locked our love. We have been inseparable ever since.

August 2016 was a very special month for both of us. I was swimming in Lake Bled with my friends, and while we were playing volleyball, our ball somehow found its way to the roof of the rowing centre. He was also there with his friends, and they helped us retrieve the ball using – what else? – an oar.
Our first meeting led to everyday texting and conversations. During that first week, we met twice more: first while swimming, and then for our first date in Art Café near the lake. On that day, we became a couple. Our love grew stronger as the years went by. Seven years later, we crowned our love with a wedding in Bled, and our first child was born a year after that. We always like to come back to Bled to stroll down memory lane.

I was selling my sunglasses through an app. On 1 April, I got a message from a boy from Bled. I was abroad at that time and I had completely forgotten all about it, but the boy came back three months later, still eager to purchase my sunglasses. On a beautiful sunny day, I took them and went to Bled. Even though the sunglasses didn’t fit, the energy passing between us was so strong that even now, four years later, we are still walking around Lake Bled, engaged and in love.

My wife and I have a lot of memories related to Bled. As a local, I often ran laps around the lake; sometimes, she joined me and we ran a couple of rounds together, but only as friends and acquaintances. During that time, our friendship evolved into love, and we got engaged in the park, next to the pavilion. We got married at the Bled town hall, celebrated our marriage at Bled Castle, and we still return to the park every year to commemorate our anniversary. On our wedding day, torrential rain was pelting down and hurricane force winds threatened to engulf the entire town. But immediately after the official part of the wedding was over, when we stepped out onto the terrace with a view of the lake, the weather immediately cleared...which was a cue for our photographer to make the best use of this wonderful serendipity.
