The Pokljuka plateau, the largest forested area in the Triglav National Park, will inspire you throughout the year. 20 kilometres long and wide, the plateau boasts fresh air, energy points, and vast stretches of forest at the altitude of 1,100 to 1,400 metres. In the spring and summer, numerous visitors explore the cool Pokljuka Gorge or the Pokljuka marshes; the plateau itself is a wonderful meeting point for cyclists and hikers, as well as an ideal starting point for climbing the surrounding peaks. In the fall, the plateau is visited by mushroom foragers, while winter is reserved for all winter joy enthusiasts. Everyone can find something for themselves in the winter fairytale at the Pokljuka plateau, seeing as it offers a wide range of sporting activities and fun in the snow.

Pleasant family ski slopes: Zatrnik, Goreljek, Viševnik

The Zatrnik family ski slope in the vicinity of Gorje will be perfect for the first ski turns of your youngest children, with three children's ski lifts (Medo, Bambi and Zajček) taking them to the top of the ski slopes of 170, 130 and 70 metres in length. At the location, you can also borrow skis, ski poles, ski boots and helmets for children.

At the Pokljuka plateau, three smaller ski slopes are perfect for beginner skiers and families with children. In the hamlet of Goreljek, next to Hotel Pokljuka, anchor ski lifts are available for the ski slope of 300 metres in length, while a platter lift and two “baby lifts” next to Hotel Jelka will take you to a ski slope of 350 metres in length. Winter hikes through an exceptional scenery

Winters, which are particularly magical at the Pokljuka plateau, invite you to enjoy shorter, but no less enjoyable hikes. The Zajamniki mountain pasture with its extremely picturesque cluster of shepherd’s huts is a particularly popular destination among hikers. An easy, short and indicated path will also lead you from Rudno polje to the Uskovnica mountain hut which is open 24/7 and also boasts a smaller chapel, not to mention the breathtaking views. The Zajavornik mountain pasture can be found on maps under the name of “planina Javornik”, while the path to the shepherd’s huts in the heart of the Pokljuka forests is easy and well-indicated.

A light two-hour walk will also take you to the Bled mountain hut, at the edge of the Lipanca mountain pasture. The hut is open year-round from Wednesday to Sunday, and boasts marvellous views of the forests and peaks of the Pokljuka plateau.

The Pokljuka plateau, located in the Triglav National Park, offers a genuine contact with nature in a green mountain paradise with numerous quiet corners. The plateau offers a unique escape into the untouched nature which will fill you with exceptional energy, calm your body and your soul, allow you to explore exceptional natural and cultural heritage of the shepherd’s huts, and charm you with extraordinary views as far as the eye can see.

Sledding, snowshoeing, and other winter delights

Extraordinary winter delights for children await on sledding trails. At the Zatrnik ski resort, a 200-metre-long sledding trail for children is arranged separately from the ski slopes; at the Pokljuka plateau, the hill on which Hotel Jelka is located is perfect for sledding, and another sledding trail is arranged on a smaller hill in the Pokljuka Sports Centre. For a special adventure at the Pokljuka plateau covered in fresh snow, put on your snowshoes, grab your hiking poles, and set out to explore the Pokljuka plateau.

Let the snow be the reason for huge smiles, for the admiration of the extraordinary snow-covered landscape, for snowball fights, for creating snow angels, and for everything else that will awaken your childlike joy and playfulness. The Pokljuka plateau will not disappoint you, even if you only decide to visit in order to spend some time on a sunlit terrace of one of the hotels and enjoy good food and drink. Extraordinary natural environment and calming views, combined with the fact that the magic winter landscape lasts longer at the Pokljuka plateau due to its altitude, are just some of the reasons for which the plateau is definitely worth a visit.
