Starkl Open-Air Museum

Discover Bled from the time of the first visitors.

Just off Lake Bled, in Mlino, visitors to Bled can look into the past at the Starkl Open-Air Museum.

The museum, located next to the Starkl Heritage & Unique Hotel, tells stories from the times when Bled was just starting to develop as a destination for excursionists and tourists. A special feature that you will certainly find attractive is the reconstruction of the first service station in Bled and the collection of vintage vehicles that take you back to the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

Stories and activities of Mlino

Who has never heard of Bled’s “pletna” boat? It was in Mlino that the story of Bled’s boat-making, one of Bled's most recognisable traditions, began. The know-how of building and operating these typical Bled boats, which has been passed down from generation to generation for over a century, is also on display in the open-air museum.

In addition to the boat-making industry, you can learn about the mills, sawmills and other activities that developed by the Jezernica brook, and delve into the story of Bled’s cream cake, the Legend of the Sunken Bell and other stories that will enrich your visit to Bled. Discover the stories of the people, crafts, transport and tourism that helped shape Bled as we know it today.
