Exhibitions in 2026

  • The first exhibition is dedicated to the royal game of chess. Visitors will be able to view part of the exhibition marking the 90th anniversary of the Šahovska zveza Slovenije. Over the decades, Bled has hosted some of the world’s most important chess tournaments, and during the Bled Chess Festival 2026 (9–15 March), the exhibition will revive memories of the legendary moments of this noble game. The second central exhibition, titled “Wishing You All the Best – Greeting Cards Through Time,” takes visitors into the aesthetic world of the 18th and 19th centuries. It presents the fascinating development from ornate calling cards, once personally delivered to recipients, to the flourishing of illustrated greeting cards after 1869. Visitors will be able to admire various printing techniques, from lithography to hand-coloured photographs from the period before 1920, when greeting cards became treasured items in collectors’ albums. Special attention is also given to the exhibition The Colour of Minerals by the Prirodoslovni muzej Slovenije. It reveals the fascinating world of mineral brilliance, originating from chemical composition and crystal structure. You will discover minerals with inherent colour, once used as pigments, as well as those whose noble appearance is created by traces of chromium, titanium or iron — elements that gift nature with gemstones such as emeralds and rubies. The exhibition also explains the impact of structural defects and inclusions, which can transform ordinary quartz into red jasper.
