08.09.2025 | News

This weekend, 13–14 September, Lake Bled will come alive once again with the rhythm of sport. According to CNN, Lake Bled ranks among the 25 most beautiful places in the world. Its crystal-clear waters, the picturesque island, and the castle perched on the cliff create a setting that rivals even the most famous destinations globally. Here, swimmers will take on distances ranging from a short 500 metres to a marathon-length 10 km.

A Challenge for Every Swimmer – From Youngsters to Experienced Athletes
X-WATERS Slovenia offers a variety of distances, giving every swimmer the chance to choose a challenge that suits them. Beginners and younger participants can take on the 500 m or the X-KIDS 500. Those with a bit more experience may go for the one mile (1.6 km), while the more ambitious can circle the lake on the 5 km course or test their endurance on the 10 km, which loops twice around Lake Bled’s jewel. Team spirit takes centre stage in the 2 × 500 m relay, with swimmers switching over on the shore. The youngest can also discover swimming in two non-competitive categories – X-KIDS 50 and X-KIDS 200.

"X-WATERS Slovenia was my first open water event. As a former competitive swimmer, it had been 10 years since I last competed! The community atmosphere was amazing, and the organisation top-notch. It was incredible to see people come from all over the world to such a special location as Lake Bled. The event caters to all abilities, and medals are awarded to the top finishers in each age group! My family also came from the UK to cheer, and we enjoyed every moment – I can’t wait for next year!" — @Hannah Williams, UK (2024)

A unique feature of X-WATERS is the combination of distances, allowing each swimmer to mix and match challenges according to their preferences. All starts and finishes take place on the renovated pontoon at the Olympic Rowing Centre Bled. With expected water temperatures and usually calm conditions, excellent racing conditions are anticipated.

Special Lake Regulations During the Event
For safety reasons, a full closure of part of the lake will be in place on Sunday, 14 September, from 8:00 to 15:00. The closure covers the rowing course area from Hotel Park to Velika Zaka, the access and exit corridors, the lane alongside the course, and the southern and south-western shores, including the area around the island during the swim.

"Competing at such a beautiful location as Lake Bled was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in open water swimming – and I’ve raced 275 times to date. The landscape is stunning, the water is clean, and the temperature was perfect on race day. I highly recommend that all lovers of this amazing sport swim in Lake Bled at least once in their lifetime." — João Silva, Portugal (2024)
