The symbol of Bled cuisine


This title has been bestowed upon the Bled cream cake for decades. If is offered in many patisseries across Slovenia, but there is only one original Bled cream cake. Ištvan Lukačevič, the former manager of Park Hotel patisserie, tested the recipes and various combinations of ingredients for a long time, before finding the right one. The original cream cake, which has been traditionally made since 1953, almost 70 years, is the most popular one. Original cream cakes are made fresh every day and are offered at Kavarna Park, opposite the hotel.


What is Bled cream cake?


And where is the secret to it? Well, there is actually no secret – only experience. And Bled does not lack experience, because 16 million so-called cream cakes have been made and sold so far. A golden crispy crust made from butter dough, mixed with butter, not margarine, a delicious vanilla cream of exactly the right consistency so that it does not collapse after cutting and to make the perfect taste, topped with whipped cream and a crispy layer of butter dough and finally, last but not least, a good dusting of icing sugar. This dish has been awarded the certificate of national origin.


Interesting facts


Almost 16 million original Bled cream cakes were made until today, comprising more than 136 tonnes of flour, 8.7 million eggs and 1.6 million litres of milk. If all original Bled cream cakes would be put in lines one after another, they would make a 1085 kilometres long line, stretching from Bled to Pompeii. If they would be put one upon another around Lake Bled, they would make an 8.25 metres high wall.

Confectioneries enthused all sweet-toothed visitors by celebrating the 60th anniversary of the queen of Bled, i.e. the Bled cream cake. They made the largest cream cake in Slovenia with two thousand and hundred pieces of it. Those, who like ice-cream more, were able to enjoy ice-cream with the taste resembling the egg and whipped cream of the original Bled cream cake.

Running events in Bled are also connected to cream cake. Every year, those who win the business run and Nočna 10ka (Night 10 km run), get forks instead of medals, so that they can celebrate their victory by tasting cream cake after crossing the finishing line.
