Cross-country trails in Kranjska Gora and Planica
Kranjska Gora and its surroundings feature a network of cross-country trails suitable for recreational and more demanding skiers. Circular routes for classic and skating techniques run through Kranjska Gora, Gozd Martuljek, Mojstrana and the Upper Radovna Valley, where conditions are most reliable. Trails are prepared once at least thirty centimetres of natural snow has fallen, with maintenance carried out around twice a week in good conditions.

At the Planica Nordic Centre, trails are prepared daily when temperatures and snow quality allow. For evening skiing, a lit section behind Hotel Kompas provides a safe and calm option after sunset.

Planica Ice Rink
The ice rink in Planica is open and offers skating with views of the Gorišek Brothers Flying Hill. The maintained ice surface suits skating, ice hockey and ice bowling, making it appealing to families, recreational skaters and groups. The setting creates a distinctive winter atmosphere, with skating taking place directly below the venue of world record ski jumps. Its open layout makes the rink suitable for a short stop or a longer winter outing in the valley below the Ponca peaks.

Along the way, views open towards surrounding peaks, including Mojstrovka, Travnik, Velika Dnina, the Ponca group and Jalovec. The route is suitable for children, as it is gentle and varied. The walk can end at the Tamar mountain hut, which offers a welcoming place for a break.

Hike to Tromeja
Tromeja lies on the summit of Peč, a panoramic ridge at 1508 metres above Rateče, where Slovenia, Austria and Italy meet. The ascent follows a marked seven-kilometre trail starting in the centre of Rateče at Kajžnkova House. The route is moderately demanding. It begins on a wider track and continues along a forest path with a steady climb and no exposed sections.

Information boards along the way present the features of Rateče, the forests of the Karavanke range and the history of the former Rapallo border. In snowy conditions, descent by sledge is also possible. From the summit, views extend across the Gailtal Alps, the Julian Alps and the Karavanke range. The boundary stone at the meeting point of the three countries is a popular photo spot.
