Just a few minutes from Lake Bled, a completely different winter world begins. Board the shuttle bus at one of the stops in Bled and travel to the village of Zasip. From there, enjoy an easy-paced walk of around 25 minutes uphill to the Church of St Catherine and the Jurček mountain refreshment hut on Hom. Beside the church, a scenic clearing opens up, also known as the Altar of Gorenjska. The views stretch across Bled, the Karavanke, the Julian Alps and Pokljuka, and on a clear day all the way to the Ljubljana Basin.
After your walk through the winter landscape, the warmth of a traditional mountain hut awaits you at Jurček. You will be welcomed with a glass of homemade schnapps, followed by the aroma of a traditional Slovenian one-pot dish – jota or ričet. A homemade apple strudel provides the perfect sweet ending.
