Once again, the air will be filled with anticipation, while friends and patriots, proud of their homeland and the beauty of their mother tongue, take their seats in the pletna boats. Words will wait to be woven into a hymn to the creation of paradise beneath Triglav. Heartfelt reflections on Bled’s roots, its archaeology, ethnology, history, literature, poetry and adoration will ripple alongside the gentle lapping of the lake.

For nearly a quarter of a century, we will once again celebrate a festival of Slovenian identity – Predšmarni večer, an evening on the eve of the Feast of the Assumption, when Mary from the church on the island bestows her blessing upon the town and its people, delighting both the eye and the ear.

Each year, the Predšmarno reading reminds us how deeply we long to revive the memory of all that is beautiful and good at the heart of Gorenjska. It fills us with pride and inspires our creativity.

The event is made possible by the pletna boatmen, the Bled Culture Institute and the Municipality of Bled. The evening will conclude with sweet treats prepared by the women of Mlino village, while the nearby Hotel Starkl will provide a glass of fine wine.
