Vintgar Gorge Opening 2020

05.05.2020 | News

Dear visitors,

Vintgar Gorge will open its doors on May 15, 2020.

Due to the situation with the new coronavirus, we have prepared a new visitation regime. We kindly ask you to read and follow the instructions below, and above all, to show understanding.
The instructions have been prepared to minimize the possibility of a COVID-19 infection in visitors and employees.

The entry and exit points have been separated. It won’t be possible to return through the gorge. This will prevent encounters in the narrow sections of the route. The entrance will be at the log cabin in the village Podhom, and the exit at the Šum waterfall in Blejska Dobrava.
Visitors will be able to choose between different circular routes to return to your entry point.

All routes are clearly marked on the information boards and signposts along the route.

Sveta Katarina - Hom (circular route)

Route:

You start at the main entrance to the Vintgar gorge on the west side. At the end of the gorge where the Šum Waterfall is located, turn right and follow the signs to the Church of St. Catherine. The hiking trail through the forest is 1.2 km long and there is about 80 m of altitude difference. The church has a beautiful view of the surrounding area, making it the altar of the Gorenjska region. There is a small snack bar on the right. You can return to the starting point (west direction), following the signposts, or you can head southeast towards Zasip or Bled.

Steep side “Strma stran” – Dobrava (circular path)

Trail path - stairs:

You start at the main entrance to the Vintgar gorge on the west side. At the end of the gorge where the Šum waterfall is located, turn left and cross the bridge.  The stairs lead steeply up. You start climbing almost 200 stairs in the direction of Blejska Dobrava. When the slope subsides, you arrive at the village of Blejska Dobrava. Continue along the paved road straight to the intersection and follow the signpost left up to the well.  At the top of the hill at the well, turn left again. The road will lead you past the houses to the end of the village and the forest path, which will take you back to the log cabin at the entrance to the gorge. This is known as the "Steep Side", as part of the path at the top of the cliffs curves just above the gorge.  Be careful along the way and do not step too close to the edge. When you walk pay attention to the rocks which may fall, because visitors of the gorge are below you. Follow the yellow signposts throughout the trail path.

Trail path - past the cemetery:

You start at the main entrance to the Vintgar gorge on the west side. At the end of the gorge is the Šum waterfall, below the waterfall is a viewing platform and from there you can continue straight on the macadam road through the forest, which climbs slightly. After a good 20-minute walk you will arrive at the parking lot under the cemetery in B/lejska Dobrava. You can refresh yourself at a bar or a nearby pub. Follow the paved road towards the core of the village with the church of St. Stefan. A village core with a bee monument has been restored at the church. From the village core, follow the road left up. At the top of the hill at the well, turn left again. The road will lead you past the houses to the end of the village and the forest path, which will take you back to the log cabin at the entrance to the gorge.
