Church of St Margaret

A beautifully decorated church full of surprises and artwork.

The parish church stands in the picturesque green valley of Bohinjska Bela. It was built in the beginning of the 17th century, i.e. in the popular Renaissance style, and was transformed in Baroque style in the 18th century.

In 1907, the church was painted by Slovenian fresco and oil painter Anton Jebačin. Besides some examples of the Passion and many chapels, the paintings in the Church of St Margaret were his major individual work.

The church has a special role in the village, since every year, the Marjetin praznik (Margaret's Festival) takes place every July, featuring a cultural and entertainment programme, handwork exhibition and an exhibition of craft products.
