Slovenian night: Veseli Begunjčani

The band Veseli Begunjčani was formed in 2007, made up of members with many years of experience performing on stages both in Slovenia and abroad. As the name suggests, they come from Begunje, a picturesque village beneath the Begunjščica mountain, which is also the hometown of the legendary Vilko and Slavko Avsenik Ensemble—considered the pioneers of Slovenian folk music.

As a tribute to the genre and to the Avsenik legacy, the group took their name from a cheerful 1954 Avsenik song titled Veseli Begunjčani (The Happy People of Begunje).

The band is dedicated to authentic Slovenian folk quintet music, particularly in the style of the Avsenik ensemble. However, they also cater to fans of other genres, including timeless evergreen melodies and contemporary popular music.
