Igor Podpečan, the leader of one of the most popular Slovenian folk music groups, "Igor in Zlati Zvoki" (Igor and the Golden Sounds), was a member of the final lineup of the legendary Avsenik Brothers Ensemble before founding his own group in 1992.
Over the past three decades, Igor and the Golden Sounds have released twenty-five albums for the German market. Their hits—such as Halo Evropa, Kavboj Joe, Labodi na Blejskem jezeru (Swans on Lake Bled), Naš ata ni copata (Our Dad’s No Doormat), Deklica s črnimi očmi (The Girl with Black Eyes), Zlatolaska (Goldilocks), Gasilec moj (My Fireman), Lunco bom vprašal (I'll Ask the Moon), and many more—are regularly played on radio stations at home and abroad.
Their singer, Jelka Hafner, is a two-time winner of the award for Best Female Singer of Slovenian Folk Music, and the band received the Slovenski Valček (Slovenian Waltz) award in 1998 as well as the Oberkrainer Award in 2013.
In addition to traditional Slovenian folk music, their repertoire also includes other genres such as Latin, country, rock, and popular songs from the former Yugoslavia.
The ensemble consists of:
- Igor Podpečan on accordion and trombone,
- Zmago Tkavc on clarinet and saxophone,
- Boštjan Lašič on trumpet and drums,
- Mike Orešar on guitar and clarinet,
- Martin Frece on baritone and bass,
- with David Duh and Jelka Hafner as the lead vocalists. Hafner also plays the violin.
