"Vezenine Bled" Intergenerational Centre

The “Vezenine Bled” Intergenerational Centre weaves the most beautiful stories of all generations. The purpose of the centre is to inform, connect and create bonds between people of all ages; furthermore, the centre also offers various activities that promote intergenerational cooperation.

The hall of the centre presents an exhibition about the once successful “Vezenine Bled” factory (1924-2004) which also gave its name to the centre. This exhibition entitled “Vezenine Bled - Eight Decades of Lace and Embroidery Industry” was prepared by the Gorenjska Museum Kranj which also keeps items left behind by the “Vezenine Bled” factory. This historical overview preserves the memory of an important part of the cultural history of this place, and also offers visitors an insight into the rich heritage of the local industry.

The “Vezenine Bled” Intergenerational Centre is located in Seliše, for numerous years a brownfield site and the location of the once extremely successful “Vezenine Bled” factory. Numerous local families and inhabitants from Bled and its surroundings were involved in the operation of the factory. With its content and appearance, the Centre preserves the memory of the factory which is also reflected in the architectural shape of the façade, displaying an abstract image of a lace pattern. This unique aesthetic feature represents an intertwinement of history and modern times, which gives the space a special charm.

The facility is designed as an ecologically- and sustainably-oriented, nearly zero-energy building owned by the Municipality of Bled. The building features an assembly of multi-functional spaces allowing for various cultural, social and educational activities. The ground floor hosts a lobby with a central location, a three-part multi-purpose hall, and informal communication areas. On the first floor, the central gallery space is accompanied by various halls for different purposes: a small exercise hall, club facilities for informal gatherings, a kitchen for cooking classes, office spaces, and a computer classroom. The second floor features a library with a large outdoor terrace.

The centre has been inaugurated in 2022 for occasional users such as companies, associations, societies, clubs, recreational groups, organisations and other groups, as well as other natural persons and legal entities. In addition, the centre also offers a co-working space which can be used flexibly, according to different needs and interests of various users. The building also hosts some permanent users: the Blaž Kumerdej Library Bled, the Bled Intergenerational Centre and the Dr. Janko Benedik Nursing Home.
