Bled Cream Cake in Los Angeles: When a Taste of Home Wins Over a Transatlantic Audience

When Luka Dončić told Hot Ones that the only dessert he would serve even courtside at Crypto.com Arena would be the Bled cream cake, its fame quite literally crossed the ocean.

His comment sparked a wave of curiosity that soon turned into action – and by the end of October, the aroma of Bled reached Los Angeles. At A Taste of Slovenia, an event held at Metro Café to showcase Slovenian cuisine and culture, the Bled cream cake took centre stage.

Among the guests were many Slovenians living in California as well as renowned creatives and athletes – including ice hockey star Anže Kopitar; composer and musician Anže Rozman, who works with the legendary film score composer Hans Zimmer and is an Emmy nominee; and Jernej Barbič, a university professor in Los Angeles and this year’s recipient of a Technical Oscar for his software used in 3D character animation in the film industry.

The event also drew American guests who were tasting Slovenian dishes for the first time – and it was the cream cake they kept talking about long after the evening ended. Once again, the Bled cream cake proved that it knows no borders – from Bled to Los Angeles, delightful and distinctive in its elegant simplicity.
