Roadworks on Bled’s Main Artery Begin in September
05.09.2025 | News
On 15 September, construction works will begin on Cesta svobode, the main traffic artery through Bled leading towards Bohinj. During construction, there will occasionally be a full closure of the lakeside walking path in the construction area. These closures will depend on the progress of works, with clear signage set up in advance to inform pedestrians.

The Municipality of Bled has reached an agreement with the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency (DRSI) on a joint investment project for the reconstruction of Cesta svobode. Alongside the state road reconstruction, the municipality will carry out long-needed upgrades of the sewage pressure line and the water supply network. The works will cover the complete renewal of the road structure, kerbstones, and asphalt from Oštarija Peglez’n past the Grand Hotel Toplice to the cantilevered footpath at Mlino.
Construction begins on 15 September, and traffic on this section will run in alternating one-way flow, managed by traffic lights. The signalised closure will move along with the construction progress. During peak traffic hours, traffic will be regulated manually.
Full pedestrian closure on part of the lakeside path
From early October, a temporary full closure will be introduced for pedestrians on the section of the lakeside path between Mlino and the Grand Hotel Toplice. Since the pavement in this section runs very close to the road, works cannot be carried out without closing it. Warning signs will inform walkers of the closure, and the public will be notified in advance of the exact timing.
An investment of exceptional importance
This long-awaited project is a crucial step in completing the separation of stormwater and sewage systems. Because this was not carried out in the past, excessive stormwater in the combined system occasionally caused overflow and pollution near the wastewater treatment plant.
Despite several appeals from residents to postpone the start of works until after 1 October, this is not possible. Construction cannot be carried out in winter or in freezing conditions.
The contractor, Gorenjska gradbena družba d.d., is scheduled to complete the works by the end of January 2026.
We kindly ask residents and visitors for their understanding, patience, and adherence to traffic signage during this period, as it is crucial for the safety of all road users.
