Bled Hosts Record-Breaking Julian Alps Trail Run by UTMB

26.08.2025 | News

From 19 to 21 September, Bled will take centre stage as Slovenia welcomes the largest mountain trail running event in its history – the I feel Slovenia Julian Alps Trail Run by UTMB. Nearly 5,000 runners from 81 countries will tackle courses ranging from 10 to 120 kilometres, turning Bled into a hub of global trail running. The event not only showcases challenging routes through the Julian Alps but also highlights Bled’s unique charm. From its iconic lake to panoramic mountain views, visitors experience the town and region in a way that goes far beyond the race itself.

Bled on the Most Challenging Routes
Lake Bled is the starting point for the 80-kilometre course, which attracts roughly 800 runners. The longest race, 120 kilometres, links four standout destinations – Radovljica, Bled, Žirovnica, and Kranjska Gora. Along the route, participants climb Mount Stol, tackling almost 6,000 metres of elevation gain and fully immersing themselves in the scale and beauty of the Julian Alps. The views of Bled and its surroundings leave a lasting impression on all who run.

»Runners on the shorter courses often comment that they enjoy not being the only ones tackling the hills. The relaxed atmosphere, along with aid stations along the route, gives them the energy to reach their goals

A Global Gathering at Lake Bled
More than 80% of participants come from abroad, with the largest groups from Poland, the UK, Hungary, Germany and Austria. Runners also arrive from as far afield as Australia, Argentina, the USA, Japan, Zimbabwe, and Mauritius. Families and friends accompany many of the athletes, meaning the region will welcome over 10,000 visitors during the event. Most stay three to five days, with many extending their trips to explore the area’s culture, cuisine, and natural beauty.

From Beginners to Ultramarathoners
While the 50-kilometre course from Žirovnica draws the most entries, Bled remains a key destination for the toughest races. Beginners are also catered for: the 10-kilometre course, open for registration until 5 September, offers gentler trails, spectacular views, and a first taste of the thrill of trail running.

An Event that Brings People Together
The Julian Alps Trail Run by UTMB is more than a race. It celebrates local craftsmanship and community spirit: medals and trophies are handmade by local artisans, timing is overseen by Slovenian specialists, and a local brewery provides post-race refreshments. Future editions will also offer participants the option to forgo a race t-shirt, with funds instead supporting mountain rescue teams, firefighters, and alpine clubs.

A Slovenian Success Story
Last year’s winner of the longest course, local runner Aleš Svetina, returns to defend his title. From his beginnings in 2019 to his victory in 2024, his journey inspires participants who will this year run around Lake Bled and across the Julian Alps.
